Hello, I’m merely curious… how did you set up the lighting in this photgraph? I am facinated by how the eyes look. The duality gives him incredible depth and unsettles me. He commands attention with perfect silence. How did you do that?

Beccah, thank you for visiting and for your comment! This was a very simple single low-key lighting scheme utilizing more shadows than highlights. Without the use of a back or fill light I was able to accomplish this very compelling and dark image while emphasizing the eyes and slightly highlighting the hood drawing direct attention to the eyes and face. Again, I just used one continues light (i.e. a lamp) to illuminate the subject at hand.

Thank you for responding! I think I might use the photo for a creative writing prompt when I student teach in the Spring. May I use the image?
Your work is very compelling and I enjoyed browsing. God bless and Merry Christmas!
